The Eisenhower Legacy Transportation Program (IKE), a 10-year program developed in consultation with Kansans and approved by the 2020 Legislature, preserves our existing system and gives us flexibility to address current and future opportunities and challenges. The Wichita region Transportation Systems Management & Operations (TSMO) plan outlines how to increase transportation agency collaboration using the TSMO toolbox.

The Beeline and the Amtrak bus connection to Oklahoma City and Newton are now operating out of the Wichita Transit Center at 214 S. Topeka. Routes include Wichita to Salina, Wichita to Joplin, Missouri, and Oklahoma City to Newton (with some stops en route).

K-TAG is the Kansas Turnpike Authority's electronic tolling program. You can save 15 percent and breeze through the toll plaza without stopping. K-TAGS are now free. Read about the two K-TAG options.

I-135 Ramp Repair

I-135 northbound right lane and entrance ramp to close Monday
Start date: March 18, 2024
Completion: Late September of 2024
Prime contractor: Reece Construction, Wichita KS 
Scope of work: NB I-135 entrance from E 85th St N. will have the ramp closed, and NB I-135 between 77th Street and 101st Street will have the lane closure due to bridge construction work.

US-54 Bridge

Bridge 118 on 343rd street construction over US-54 
Start date: March 25, 2024
Completion: May 3, 2024
Contract amount: $269,705.71
Prime contractor: Reece Construction, Wichita
Scope of work: This is a bridge patching repair for the bridge deck and rails.  

I-135 to U.S. 54 Closure

I-135 southbound to westbound U.S. 54 will have the ramp closed.
Start date: April 8,2024
Completion: Late May 2024
Contract amount: $1,348,537.60
Prime contractor: Wildcat Construction
Scope of work: The project will involve milling, patching and a concrete overlay being placed on each side
Special notes: Work on this bridge is one of three bridge rehabilitation projects scheduled this year at the I-135/U.S. 54 interchange. The bridge work will take place consecutively. This first project is set to conclude in late May.

I-235 Patching

Concrete patching on I-235 from the South Junction to N. Meridian  
Start date: April 23, 2023
Completion: Fall 2023

Scope of work: Concrete patching on mainline and ramps.

Keep Right, Pass Left. A Kansas law requires that drivers on roadways outside of cities, with two or more lanes in the same direction, must drive in the right lane unless they are making a left turn or passing another vehicle (fine is $60 + court costs).

Put the phone down and drive! Kansas joins 29 other states: drivers caught writing, sending or reading a text message while on a public road or highway = $60 fine + court costs.
