Project Description
This priority bridge replacement is in the preliminary design phase and includes replacement of the California Avenue bridge over I-70 in Shawnee County. Replacement of the existing bridge is necessary due to the end of its useful design life. This bridge replacement is replacing an aging bridge with a durable structure built to current design criteria. With an approximate investment of $6 million, this project will enhance reliability, safety and long-term cost efficiency that prioritizes connectivity for both local and through traffic in Topeka. Construction is anticipated to begin in 2026.
