Project Description
The Kansas State Freight and Rail Plan (Plan) is designed to guide the state’s actions related to freight and rail transportation. It combines the goals of the Kansas Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP) with freight and rail plan guidance and passenger rail requirements from key federal agencies.
This Plan serves as an update to KDOT’s 2023 Kansas State Freight Plan and 2022 Kansas State Rail Plan. Pending stakeholder input, this Plan is focused on the following goal categories:
This Plan will include guidance on investment of available funds and recommendations related to projects and priorities that will help KDOT meet future freight needs and growth in Kansas.
The process for developing this Plan is shown in the graphic below.
The Kansas Freight Advisory Committee, made up of key stakeholders across freight and rail sectors, will meet three times throughout the project to provide feedback and insight.
KDOT also welcomes public input on the Plan. Please click the link below to share your feedback using the Statewide Freight and Rail Plan comment mapping tool. Comments will be accepted until May 1, 2026.
