KDOT’s Special Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) launches four annual campaigns in partnership with local and state agencies to increase seat belt use and enforce impaired and distracted driving laws. The campaigns are timed around the holidays of Thanksgiving, New Year’s Eve, Memorial Day, and Labor Day. For questions about participation in STEP please reach out to your Law Enforcement Liaisons.

Please submit all activity reports online using the link below. These activity reports have changed slightly since FY25 to capture the most relevant traffic safety enforcement data. Please submit your agency’s data within 30 days of completing the enforcement.

Requirements

Participate in three campaigns

Enforcement must be performed on overtime

Federal funds cannot be used to replace regular operating expenses

Participating officers are exempt from normal duty requirements
