The Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) Grant Program is a 5-year (2022-2026), $5-billion federal discretionary program that funds regional, local, and Tribal initiatives through grants to prevent roadway deaths and serious injuries. SS4A grants can be used for planning, demonstration projects, and implementation projects covering all aspects of transportation safety (i.e., education, engineering, enforcement, and emergency response).
Since 2022, SS4A has provided approximately $67 million in Federal funding to 62 grantees across Kansas. Additionally, the Kansas Department of Transportation and the Build Kansas Fund have provided over $15 million in state funds to cover part of or all local match requirements. To date, 2.8 million people, or 96% of the State’s population, live in areas that are or will be covered by a Safety Action Plan. You can view Kansas SS4A awardees through this interactive map or in this PDF list.
FHWA has many resources available online for the SS4A grant program. Additionally, the Kansas Infrastructure Hub can provide technical assistance in the pursuit of SS4A grants. Inquire with the Kansas Infrastructure Hub on the availability of the Build Kansas Fund for local match support.
