Best Management Practices (BMPs)
The water quality benefits of our Best Management Practices (BMPs), which are described in the SWMP and annual report, are supported by research and/or common sense approaches to reducing stormwater pollution within the framework of the Department’s organization and mission.
BMPs focus on the following:
- Public Involvement/ Public Education (includes training for KDOT employees)
- Illicit Discharge Detections and Elimination
- Stormwater outfall inventory for MS4 regulated area Construction Site Stormwater Runoff Controls
- KDOT Supplemental Specification (Division 900: contains temporary sediment and erosion controls)
- Post Construction Stormwater Management
- KDOT reviews each project in a accordance with the Drainage Manual.
- Pollution Prevention and Good Housekeeping
