Kansas communities know their transportation challenges best. That’s why KDOT listens to local leaders and residents and turns those priorities into projects. As the Eisenhower Legacy Transportation Program (IKE) moves beyond its halfway point, those conversations continue to guide investment decisions statewide.
Over the past year, collaboration has driven KDOT’s progress. Projects improved highways and bridges, expanded multimodal options and supported local economies. KDOT also met its investment commitments in every region. These outcomes reflect strong partnerships, bipartisan legislative support and the leadership of Governor Laura Kelly.
As projects move forward, safety remains our most important responsibility. KDOT is working with local governments
and law enforcement to reduce fatal crashes and to better target safety improvements using improved crash data. With support from Governor Laura Kelly and law enforcement partners, KDOT is modernizing crash data collection
so communities can have quicker and more accurate information to guide planning and investment decisions.
None of this progress happens without the people who make it possible. KDOT employees maintained roads and bridges, delivered complex projects and served the public through severe winter storms, dust events and other challenging conditions. Their commitment is the foundation of everything we do.
As 2026 begins, KDOT faces familiar challenges including rising construction costs, uncertain federal funding and transportation needs that continue to outpace available resources. These realities require careful prioritization and continued collaboration. With IKE well underway, KDOT remains focused on the work ahead.
