Kansas City ITS operations are managed in partnership with the Missouri Department of Transportation through the KC Scout Traffic Management Center. KC Scout is the bi-state traffic management system serving the greater Kansas City metropolitan area, providing coordinated coverage on both the Kansas and Missouri sides of the state line. The system monitors and manages traffic on more than 300 miles of continuous freeways using cameras, sensors, and dynamic message signs to detect incidents, reduce congestion, improve rush-hour travel speeds, enhance safety, and support faster, safer emergency response—helping keep traffic moving efficiently throughout the region.
