The Bureau of Traffic Engineering is divided into two main sections: Traffic Engineering and Signing. The Bureau plays an important role within KDOT, focusing on reducing fatal and injury crashes.
Traffic Engineering Responsibilities
- Designing and developing intersection improvements, traffic signals, lighting, and pavement marking plans.
- Conducting traffic studies to recommend safety improvements.
- Managing federal and state aid funds for cities.
Signing Group Responsibilities
- Designing and reviewing plans for permanent signs on the state highway system.
- Managing federal and state aid funds to maintain compliance with signing guidelines.
- Developing and reviewing traffic control plans for work zones on the state highway system.
