KDOT Closures:

NB and SB U.S. 69 (Metcalf Ave.), March 30 - May 1, NEW. Single left lane closed for bridge work.

NB and SB I-435, Renner Rd. to Shawnee Mission Pkwy., February 19 – June 6, ONGOING. Lanes diverted to head-to-head traffic via median crossover for bridge repair work on SB I-435 bridge over Little Mill Creek. 

WB K-10 at Ridgeview Rd., February 2025 – April 2026, ONGOING - UPDATED. Right lane shoulder and ramp shoulder closed (WB K-10 to Ridgeview Rd. exit ramp) for construction access.

KDOT Construction Projects Affecting Traffic:             

NB and SB U.S. 69 (Metcalf Ave.) over Johnson Dr., start date March 30, ONGOING. Bridge improvement project; work includes rehabilitation of the U.S. 69 (Metcalf Ave.) bridge over Johnson Dr., grading and paving, removal of the SB U.S. 69 (Metcalf Ave.) to Metcalf Ln. exit ramp, lighting and guardrail installation, drainage adjustments and median reconstruction. Work is scheduled in phases and permitted Monday through Friday, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturdays, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Please see “KDOT Closures” for applicable closure info. The project is expected to be completed in December 2026.  

NB and SB I-435 at Little Mill Creek, start date February 16, ONGOING - UPDATED. Bridge deck repair project; work includes bridge surface removal, full and partial depth patching and concrete overlay. Detour will be marked; the project is scheduled in multiple phases. During phase one, SB I-435 traffic will be diverted to head-to-head traffic in the existing NB I-435 lanes using crossovers constructed in the median and the Midland Dr. to SB I-435 entrance ramp will be closed. Work is scheduled in phases with the first phase to be completed in early June, and all phases expected to be completed in December 2026.     

NB and SB U.S. 56, from the western edge of Baldwin City to the western side of Gardner, start date October 2025, ONGOING - UPDATED. Pavement improvement project; work includes replacement of the Gardner Rd. bridge over I-35, with turn lanes, shoulders, lighting improvements and pedestrian facilities, an additional lane on the SB I-35 to Gardner Rd. exit ramp, pavement improvements and realignment of 191^st Street east of Gardner Rd. Work is planned in phases and will be regularly scheduled Monday through Friday, with Saturdays, as needed, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and lane restrictions on weekdays will be limited to 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Please see “Short-Term Closures” for applicable daily and nightly closure info. The project is expected to be be completed in spring 2027.

Gardner Rd./I-35, start date September 2025, ONGOING. Bridge replacement project; work includes replacement of the Gardner Rd. bridge over I-35, with turn lanes, shoulders, lighting improvements and pedestrian facilities, an additional lane on the SB I-35 to Gardner Rd. exit ramp, pavement improvements and realignment of 191^st Street east of Gardner Rd. Work is planned in phases and will be regularly scheduled Monday through Friday, with Saturdays, as needed, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and lane restrictions on weekdays will be limited to 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Please see “Short-Term Closures” for applicable daily and nightly closure info. The project is expected to be be completed in spring 2027.

NB and SB U.S. 69, 103rd St. to 151st St., and U.S. 69/167th St., start date February 2023, ONGOING - UPDATED. Lane expansion and interchange improvement project; work includes widening of NB and SB U.S. 69, from 103rd St. to 151st St., which will include a tolled express lane in each direction, and improvements to the U.S. 69/167th St. interchange. Area lane and ramp closures will be scheduled for the duration of the project, with traffic control changing as the project progresses. Work will take place daily and nightly. Please see “Short-Term Closures” for applicable daily and nightly closure info. Express lanes were opened in February 2026, with the project expected to be completed by the end of 2026. 

KDOT Short-term Closures:      

EB I-70, I-435 to I-635, April 7, NEW. Alternating lane closures for mudjacking work from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. 

EB I-70, 57th St. to I-635, April 6 - 7, NEW. Single right lane closed for pothole repair work from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. 

WB I-70, U.S. 69 (18th St.) to I-635, April 6, NEW. Alternating lane closures for mudjacking work from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. 

KDOT Closures:

NB and SB U.S. 69 (18^th St.), Kansas Ave. to Ruby Ave., March 2025 – Fall 2027, ONGOING. Roadway fully closed and ramps closed (U.S. 69 (18^th St.)/Kansas Ave. and U.S. 69 (18^th St.)/Ruby Ave. entrance and exit ramps) for bridge replacement project work. 

EB and WB K-32/Turner Diagonal Fwy., 65^th St. to 59^th Ln., October 2023 – May 2026, ONGOING – UPDATED. Roadway fully closed for bridge replacement project work. 

KDOT construction projects affecting traffic:

K-5 over Union Pacific Railroad, south of Sunshine Rd., start date May 2025, ONGOING - UPDATED. Bridge deck replacement project; project includes bridge deck replacement. All NB and SB K-5 lanes, 10^th St. to Sunshine Rd., will be fully closed to traffic until the bridge is reopened. Detours are marked. Work is scheduled during daylight hours, Monday through Saturday. The project is expected to be completed in October 2026.

Multiple NB and SB I-435 bridges, Kansas River to Missouri River, start date March 2025, ONGOING – UPDATED. Bridge repair project; work includes bridge patching and overlay of the following bridges: NB I-435 over Connor Creek, SB I-435 over Leavenworth Rd., SB I-435 over Georgia Ave., SB I-435 over Parallel Pkwy. SB I-435 over 98^th St. and NB and SB I-435 over Swartz Rd. For the duration of the project, NB I-435 traffic, from K-32 to Swartz Rd., and SB I-435 traffic, from I-70 to Swartz Rd., will be reduced to two lanes. Project work will take place in phases and traffic will be shifted to inside or outside lanes and shoulders at bridge project locations with marked detours. The following ramps will be closed temporarily as project progresses: Kansas Ave. to SB I-435 entrance ramp, SB I-435 to Kansas Ave. exit ramp, K-32 to NB I-435 ramp, WB Parallel Pkwy. to SB I-435 entrance ramp, SB I-435 to EB Parallel Pkwy. exit ramp, EB and WB Leavenworth Rd. to SB I-435 entrance ramps and SB I-435 to EB Leavenworth Rd. exit ramp. Detours will be marked. Please see “Short-Term Closures” for applicable daily closure info. Work is scheduled in phases during daylight hours, Monday through Friday, and Saturdays, as needed. The project is expected to be completed in May 2026.

U.S. 69 (18^th St.) bridge over Kansas River, start date March 2025, ONGOING. Bridge replacement project; work includes replacement of the 18^th St. Bridge and roadway improvements along U.S. 69 (18^th Street), within the closure limits, and rehabilitation work on the U.S. 69 (18^th Street) bridges over Ruby Ave., Metropolitan Ave., Osage Ave. and the Kansas City Terminal (KCT)/Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) Railway. NB and SB U.S. 69 (18^th St.), Kansas Ave. to Ruby Ave., is fully closed to traffic and adjacent ramps are closed (U.S. 69 (18^th St.)/Kansas Ave. and Ruby Ave. entrance and exit ramps) for the duration of the project. Detours are marked. Work is scheduled during daylight hours and the project is expected to be completed in fall 2027.

K-32/Turner Diagonal Fwy./Kaw Dr., start date October 2022, ONGOING – UPDATED. Bridge replacement project; work includes replacement of the EB and WB K-32/Turner Diagonal Fwy. bridges over Kaw Dr. and Union Pacific Railroad lines. Adjacent ramp closures and full K-32 closures are scheduled on EB and WB K-32/Turner Diagonal Fwy. from 65^th St. to 59^th Ln. Detours are marked; the project is scheduled in multiple phases. Work is scheduled from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. and the project is expected to be completed in summer 2026.
