Background

The Eisenhower Legacy Transportation Program (IKE) established the Innovative Connected Technologies set-aside to be funded at $10M per year. This will allow broadband providers to use state-owned infrastructure like conduits, vaults and building access in highway right of way.

What is the program?

KDOT plans to deploy and lease broadband infrastructure to qualified providers throughout Kansas. The Program allows broadband providers to utilized designated KDOT broadband infrastructure or install their own. This Program supports broadband deployment through efficient use of select public infrastructure.

What is KDOT's goal for the program?

The Open Access Broadband Program helps Kansas make better use of infrastructure already in place while supporting connectivity, reducing costs, and strengthening local economies.
