Daytime closures scheduled on Kansas Avenue in Topeka

Post Date:07/10/2026 12:59 PM

Three daytime closures are scheduled to occur next week on Kansas Avenue in Topeka, as part of the Kansas Department of Transportation’s I-70 Polk-Quincy Viaduct project. The temporary closures will be in place from approximately 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the following days:

  • Tuesday, July 14
  • Wednesday, July 15
  • Thursday, July 16

During each closure, Kansas Avenue will be closed between 1st and 3rd streets while bridge girders are placed on the new viaduct structure. Drivers can follow the marked detour on 3rd Street, Topeka Boulevard and N.W. Morse Street or find an appropriate alternative route.

The Kansas Avenue bridge is expected to remain open while the closures are in place.

All project work and traffic changes are conditions permitting and subject to change.
