Changes on Monroe, 4th streets in downtown Topeka to begin tomorrow

Post Date:05/18/2026 10:14 AM

Starting tomorrow, May 19, in downtown Topeka, Monroe Street at the 4th Street intersection and the on-ramp to eastbound I-70 will also close for work on the Polk-Quincy Viaduct (PQV) project.

Monroe Street between 4th Street and 6th Avenue will change from one-way to two-way traffic to allow access to the Frank Carlson Federal Building and parking garage. The Thacher Building’s south parking lot can be accessed from 4th Street or Quincy Street.

These changes will be in place for several months while 4th Street is being reconstructed.

All project work and traffic changes are conditions permitting and subject to change.

More information about the PQV project is available at ksdot.gov/I-70-Polk-Quincy.

KDOT urges motorists to stay alert and follow posted signs in all work zones. For current road conditions, visit KanDrive.gov or call 511. For updates on highway projects in northeast Kansas, visit ksdot.gov/NortheastNews.
