Railroad work to begin on west edge of Mulvane

Post Date:04/08/2026 9:05 AM

The BNSF Railroad will close its crossing on K-53 on the west edge of Mulvane in Sumner County for repair work next week.

The roadway will be fully closed at the railroad crossing from approximately 7 a.m. on Tuesday, April 14, until 5 p.m. on Thursday, April 16, conditions permitting.

During the closure, motorists can follow the state route detour on U.S. 81, K-55 and K-15, or use alternate routes that are not marked.

KDOT uses state highways for official detour routes for safety, weight and maintenance concerns.

KDOT urges motorists to stay alert and follow posted signs in all work zones. For current road conditions, visit kandrive.gov or call 511. For updates on construction projects in South Central Kansas, visit ksdot.gov/southcentralnews.
