U.S. 40 project in Shawnee County to begin Monday

Post Date:03/27/2026 9:30 AM

The Kansas Department of Transportation will begin a mill and overlay project on U.S. 40 in Shawnee County on Monday, March 30. Work will take place in the area between Tecumseh Road and the westbound K-4 ramps.

The area will be restricted to one lane, and traffic will be directed by a pilot car and flaggers when crews are actively working. Drivers should plan for delays of up to 15 minutes.

A 12-foot width restriction will also be in place through the work zone.

Work will occur during daylight hours Monday through Friday and is expected to be complete by late April.

Bettis Asphalt Construction, of Topeka, is the primary contractor on the $500,000 project.

All project work and traffic changes are conditions permitting and subject to change.

KDOT urges motorists to stay alert and follow posted signs in all work zones. For current road conditions, visit KanDrive.gov or call 511. For updates on highway projects in northeast Kansas, visit ksdot.gov/NortheastNews.
