Culvert to undergo emergency repair in Elk County

Post Date:03/25/2026 2:58 PM

A 38-mile mile stretch of U.S. 160 east of Moline will be closed for a week starting March 25 to make emergency repairs to a box culvert bridge, according to the Kansas Department of Transportation.

The box culvert extends under U.S. 160 and is located a mile east of K-99. Part of the culvert is made from wood, which was damaged in a recent grass fire and needs repaired.

U.S. 160 will be closed from K-99 in Elk County east to the U.S. 75 junction in Montgomery County during the repair.

No official detour is in place.

KDOT urges motorists to stay alert and follow posted signs in all work zones. For current road conditions, visit kandrive.gov or call 511. For updates on construction projects in southeast Kansas, visit ksdot.gov/projects/southeast-kansas-projects.
