Asphalt overlay to begin March 30 on K-31/K-65 in Bourbon County

Post Date:03/25/2026 8:30 AM

About 23 miles on two Kansas highways in northern Bourbon County will undergo resurfacing starting March 30, according to the Kansas Department of Transportation.

Milling and patching will start on K-31 at the U.S. 69 junction and continue west toward Mapleton, where the activity will follow K-65 to the junction of K-3. In the next phase, the contractor will add an asphalt overlay starting at K-3 and will work east toward U.S. 69.

A pilot car will guide travelers through the work zone, which could be up to three miles long as work progresses. Travelers can expect delays of up to 15 minutes.

The three projects are expected to be complete in late July, conditions permitting.

Pearson Construction LLC, of Wichita, is the primary contractor for the projects, which total $3.7 million.

KDOT urges motorists to stay alert and follow posted signs in all work zones. For current road conditions, visit kandrive.gov or call 511. For updates on construction projects in southeast Kansas, visit ksdot.gov/projects/southeast-kansas-projects.
