The Kansas Department of Transportation will host an open house for the ongoing I-70 Polk-Quincy Viaduct project and upcoming California Avenue bridge replacement project on Thursday, March 5, from 5 to 7 p.m., at the Cyrus K. Holliday Building, 620 S.E. Madison Street, in Topeka.
The public will be able to review information for both projects, including construction timelines and traffic plans, and speak with members of the project teams. There will be no formal presentation, and attendees may come and go at any time during the event.
The I-70 Polk-Quincy Viaduct project started in early 2025. This year, work will focus on constructing the new viaducts and their connections to I-70 and local streets. The full closure of I-70 between Topeka Boulevard and 8th Avenue is expected to occur from early summer to late fall, conditions permitting.
The California Avenue bridge project will replace the existing bridge over I-70 in east Topeka. The bridge will be closed during construction, which is being scheduled to coincide with the Polk-Quincy Viaduct project and upcoming closure of I-70 when lower traffic counts are anticipated in the area.
Information presented at the open house will be available Thursday, March 5, on the project websites. To view the materials and other information about the projects, visit ksdot.gov/I-70-Polk-Quincy or ksdot.gov/California-Bridge.
Persons needing special assistance or accommodation to attend the meeting or would like to request alternative formats of meeting materials, can email KDOT.Engagement@ks.gov.
