KDOT accepting applications for $32 million available through TA Program

Post Date:02/02/2026 9:08 AM

The Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) is accepting applications for $32 million in available grant funding for construction projects through the Transportation Alternatives (TA) Program.

These funds help communities design and build non-motorized forms of transportation projects that can have significant local and regional impacts. Eligible projects include the construction of new and improved sidewalks, pedestrian bridges, multi-use paths, crosswalks and more.

“The Transportation Alternatives Program helps communities provide safer and more enjoyable ways to walk, bike and roll,” said KDOT Active Transportation Manager Jenny Kramer. “Applications with a focus on safety are the most competitive, especially for kids walking and rolling to and from school.”

Participants can learn and ask questions during informational repeat webinars taking place at 10 a.m. on Feb. 6, 10 and 11. The webinar link and the link to submit concept papers are both on the TA program webpage, https://www.ksdot.gov/programs/multimodal-programs/transportation-alternatives.

Funding this round is focused on projects ready to implement and construct during Federal Fiscal Years 2027 and 2028 and requires a 20% local match.

Key dates in the process include:

  • Informational webinars – Feb. 6, 10 and 11
  • Concept papers due online (required for application) – Feb. 27
  • Concept papers review and feedback – March
  • Application links emailed to eligible applicants – By April 1
  • Applications due on-line – May 15
  • Application review – May-July
  • Awards announced – this fall
