A contractor's employee working on a KDOT administered bridge project in Cowley County was injured on a work site.
The incident happened on the bridge replacement project on 232nd Road over Grouse Creek southwest of Dexter on the morning of Dec. 2. An excavator fell through a bridge deck during demolition of the existing structure.
The injured person was transported to a hospital for treatment. Traffic control had just been set on Monday, Dec. 1. It was the first full day of work.
232nd Road has been closed long term by Cowley County prior to the beginning of the project. It will remain closed at the bridge for the duration of the project. A detour route is not planned.
The $1.36 million project is being completed by Bridges, Inc. of Newton, Kansas.
Conditions permitting, the road is expected to be back open in the summer of 2026.
