Weekend closures at 135th Street/U.S. 69 start tonight in Overland Park
All 135th Street lanes under U.S. 69 in Overland Park will be fully closed to traffic starting Friday, Nov. 7 at 7 p.m. and will reopen by Monday, Nov. 10 at 6 a.m.
U.S. 69/135th Street interchange ramps will be fully closed Friday, Nov. 7 at 7 p.m., except for the westbound 135th Street to northbound U.S. 69 entrance ramp, which will remain open to traffic.
At 6 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, all U.S. 69/135th Street interchange ramps will reopen to right turns only and will be fully reopened to traffic by Monday, Nov. 10 at 6 a.m.
Drivers should expect delays along 135th Street and on the interchange ramps and are encouraged to seek alternate routes.
These temporary closures are necessary for asphalt work along 135th Street and part of the Kansas Department of Transportation U.S. 69 Corridor Modernization and Expansion Project (69Express). All work schedules are weather permitting.
During these closures, detours will be marked as follows:
- Eastbound 135th Street traffic: Turn right (south) onto Antioch Avenue. Travel southbound on Antioch, turn left (east) on 143rd Street. Travel eastbound on 143rd Street, turn left (north) on Metcalf Avenue, then use Metcalf to continue northbound to 135th Street.
- Westbound 135th Street traffic: Turn left (south) on Metcalf Avenue and travel south, then turn right (west) on 143rd Street. Travel westbound on 143rd Street to turn right (north) on Antioch Avenue and continue north to 135th Street.
- Northbound U.S. 69 to 135th Street traffic: Continue north to exit at Blue Valley Parkway, then turn right (east) on 123rd Street. Travel east to turn right (south) on Metcalf Avenue, then continue southbound to 135th Street.
- Eastbound 135th Street to southbound U.S. 69 traffic: Turn right (south) on to Antioch Road and turn left (east) on 151st Street. Travel eastbound to use the 151st Street to southbound U.S. 69 entrance ramp.
- Eastbound 135th Street to northbound U.S. 69 traffic: Turn right (south) on to Antioch Road and turn left (east) on 143rd Street. Travel eastbound, then turn left (north) on Metcalf Avenue. Continue north and turn left on 135th Street, then travel west to use northbound U.S. 69 entrance ramp.
- Westbound 135th Street to southbound U.S. 69 traffic: Turn left (south) on to Metcalf Road and then turn right (west) on 151st Street. Travel westbound to use the 151st Street to southbound U.S. 69 entrance ramp.
- Southbound U.S. 69 to 135th Street traffic: Continue south to exit at 151st Street, then turn right (west). Travel westbound and turn right (north) on Antioch Road, then continue northbound to 135th Street.
The 69Express project includes reconstruction of U.S. 69, widening the highway with added express lanes – one in each direction between 151st and 103rd Streets – and interchange improvements at U.S. 69/167th Street in Overland Park.
