More than 150 transportation professionals, advocates and community members from across Kansas are gathering in Lawrence this week for the Walk Bike Roll Kansas Active Transportation Summit, hosted by the Kansas Department of Transportation.
The summit kicks off at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 29, at the Springhill Suites in Lawrence and will focus on ways to help improve safety and connectivity in Kansas communities for walking, biking and rolling. The event includes interactive sessions, biking and walking tours of local infrastructure and opportunities to collaborate on ways to support active transportation.
Keynote speaker Wes Marshall will share his insights as a transportation researcher on rethinking street design and the role of engineering in building more human-centered communities. Strong Towns will also have a Crash Analysis Studio Workshop where people can participate and learn from crashes how to improve safety.
“Communities thrive when everyone can move safely and comfortably, no matter how they travel,” said Jenny Kramer, KDOT’s Active Transportation Manager. “The 2025 Walk Bike Roll Summit is bringing people together to build momentum and help make that a reality across Kansas.”
