Overnight southbound U.S. 69 closures scheduled in Overland Park for overhead sign installation and pavement work

Post Date:10/24/2025 4:22 PM

In Overland Park, southbound U.S. 69, between I-35 and 103rd Street, and the entrance ramps from 87th Street and 95th Street to U.S. 69 will be fully closed to traffic nightly from Sunday, October 26 through Thursday, October 30.

The closures will begin at 7 p.m. each night and end by 6 a.m. the following morning.

These closures are necessary for overhead sign installation and pavement work. This work is part of the Kansas Department of Transportation U.S. 69 Corridor Modernization and Expansion Project (69Express).

During the nightly closure, a detour will be marked as follows:

  • Southbound I-35 traffic will be directed to continue south to use the eastbound I-435 ramp, then travel east on I-435 to use the southbound U.S. 69 ramp.

The 69Express project includes reconstruction of U.S. 69, widening the highway with added express lanes – one in each direction between 151st and 103rd Streets – and interchange improvements at U.S. 69/167th Street in Overland Park.

All current U.S. 69 corridor construction and closure information is available on the 69Express project website, www.69express.org. For additional information, members of the public can get regular construction updates on the project on Facebook and X pages and by subscribing to the project newsletter and signing up to receive text message alerts.
