The Kansas Department of Transportation is scheduled to reduce U.S. 77 to one lane northbound in Cowley County beginning Monday, Sept. 29, at 8 a.m. for railroad work on the BNSF crossing at Strother Field between Arkansas City and Winfield. The southbound lanes will be as normal until Oct. 5.
The northbound lanes will be fully closed Oct. 5, and traffic will be moved to the southbound lanes with the speed limit between 222nd Road and 212th Road reduced to 35 mph.
This is an update of the original schedule to limit lane closures as much as possible. The intent is to keep the head to head traffic in the southbound lanes to a single day, conditions permitting.
