Project starting today on K-4/Oakland Expressway in Topeka
Pavement patching work starts today, Sept. 16, on K-4/Oakland Expressway in east Topeka. The Kansas Department of Transportation project extends from the Kansas River bridge to Shunganunga Creek.
The area will be restricted to one lane, and traffic will be controlled by temporary traffic signals for the duration of the project. Motorists should plan for delays of up to 15 minutes.
The northbound K-4 exit ramp to N.E. Seward Avenue will also be closed. A marked detour will direct traffic to the U.S. 40/6th Street exit and Croco Road. Motorists can use the signed detour or alternate routes that are not marked.
Work will occur during daylight hours Monday through Friday, and Saturdays if needed.
Bettis Asphalt & Construction Inc., of Topeka, is the prime contractor on the $893,000 project, which is expected to be complete by early November, conditions permitting.
KDOT urges motorists to stay alert and follow posted signs in all work zones. For current road conditions, visit KanDrive.gov or call 511. For updates on highway projects in northeast Kansas, visit NewsReleases/District1-NortheastKansas.
