Bridge replacement to begin on U.S. 56 in Rice County
The Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) will begin a bridge replacement project on U.S. 56 in Rice County the week of Oct. 13. This was originally planned to start in September.
The project involves replacing a box culvert-style bridge located just south of the city of Chase, between 7th and 8th roads. The existing bridge has reached the end of its useful life and requires replacement.
The lead contractor for the $1.8 million project is Reece Construction of Salina. The project is anticipated to be completed by spring of 2026.
During construction, traffic will be reduced to a single lane through the work zone and will be and controlled by temporary traffic signals. Motorists should be prepared to slow down and stop and expect delays of up to 15 minutes. For current road conditions, visit kandrive.gov or call 511.
