The Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) will begin a project to replace the box culvert and reconstruct the road at the intersection of K-58 and K-249 in Madison Sept. 22.
The reconstruction will eventually allow traffic to move on to K-58 in Madison again and provide for geometric improvements to the intersection.
The road will remain closed with the detour remaining in place on K-99, U.S. 54, U.S. 75 and K-58.
Vogts-Parga Construction based in Moundridge is the lead contractor on the $1.26 million project.
KDOT reminds motorists to stay alert and follow posted signs in all work zones. For current road conditions, visit kandrive.gov or call 511. For updates on construction projects in Southeast Kansas, visit ksdot.gov/projects/southeast-kansas-projects.
