The Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) plans to begin bridge replacement on K-177 over Fourmile Creek in Morris County on Monday, Aug. 26.
During bridge construction, temporary traffic signals will direct one lane of traffic through the work zone at a reduced speed.
In conjunction with bridge construction, full reconstruction of K-177 is expected to begin in early April 2026. K-177 will be closed to through traffic from U.S. 50 near Strong City to U.S. 56 near Council Grove during this time.
Through traffic on K-177 can follow the state detour via U.S. 50, K-150, U.S. 77 and U.S. 56. KDOT uses state highways for official detour routes due to safety, weight limits and maintenance concerns.
Bob Bergkamp Construction Co., of Wichita is the primary contractor for this $9.5 million project, which includes both the bridge replacement and K-177 reconstruction.
The bridge replacement over Fourmile Creek and K-177 reconstruction is expected to be completed in November, 2026.
KDOT urges all motorists to stay alert and follow all posted signs when approaching and driving through a work zone. To stay aware of all highway construction projects across Kansas, visit kandrive.gov or call 511.
