Resurfacing work on I-70 in Topeka is scheduled to begin on the evening of Sunday, Aug. 10, conditions permitting. The Kansas Department of Transportation’s mill and overlay project includes all lanes of I-70 from approximately 6th Avenue to the east I-70/I-470 interchange.
Eastbound lanes will be done first, starting at 6th Avenue and progressing to the I-470 interchange. Crews will then shift to the westbound lanes in the same area.
Project work will take place during overnight hours: From 5 p.m. Sunday to 6 a.m. Monday, and from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. nightly Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. All lanes will be open during non-working hours.
Intermittent ramp closures will occur: The following eastbound I-70 ramps will close this Sunday night, Aug. 10, into Monday, Aug. 11:
- 8th Avenue on- and off-ramps
- 10th Avenue on-ramp to eastbound I-70
- Adams Street/Branner Trafficway on- and off-ramps
- California Avenue on- and off-ramps
- Carnahan Avenue/Deer Creek Trafficway on- and off-ramps
Traffic will be reduced to one lane where crews are actively working. Additional ramp closures will occur intermittently as needed. Message boards and signage will be in place to alert and guide motorists.
Bettis Asphalt & Construction Inc., of Topeka, is the prime contractor on the project, which is expected to be complete by November, conditions permitting.
