Road construction projects set in Rooks, Ellis counties
The Kansas Department of Transportation plans to begin work on a series of improvement projects along portions of K-18 and U.S. 183 in Rooks and Ellis counties the week of Aug. 11.
The first project will involve milling and overlay on 12 miles of U.S. 183 starting at S Road north of Plainville and ending at the Ellis County line. Crews will then resurface approximately 13 miles of K-18 between Palco and Plainville. The final project will continue milling and overlay on 15 miles U.S. 183 in Ellis County beginning at the Rooks County line and ending near 55th Street in Hays.
Traffic will be reduced to one lane and directed by flaggers and a pilot car through the areas where crews are actively working. Motorists should plan for delays not exceeding 15 minutes during daylight hours.
KDOT expects the projects to be completed in late October, conditions permitting.
Bettis Construction and Asphalt, of Topeka, is the primary contractor for the projects with a combined contract cost of $7.2 million. For more information, contact KDOT Area Engineer Kevin Zimmer at 785-261-6132 or kevin.zimmer@ks.gov.
