Resurfacing in Barber County to begin later this month
The Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) will begin highway resurfacing projects along sections of U.S. 160 and U.S 281 in Barber County the week of July 28.
Project locations include U.S. 160 in Barber County, from the Barber/Comanche County line east to the west edge wearing surface of bridge #041 and U.S. 281 from the Oklahoma/Kansas state line north to the U.S. 160/U.S. 281 junction. The U.S. 281 project is nearly 24 miles, with the U.S. 160 project at nearly 23 miles.
Each highway is reduced to one lane in smaller sections as work takes place. Flaggers and a pilot car will guide motorists through the construction zone. Motorists should expect delays of up to 15 minutes.
Venture Corporation of Great Bend is the contractor on the $7.8 million project. Conditions permitting, it is expected to be completed by the end of October.
KDOT urges motorists to stay alert and follow posted signs in all work zones. For current road conditions, visit kandrive.gov or call 511. For updates on construction projects in South Central Kansas, visit ksdot.gov/projects/south-central-kansas-projects.
The projects are marked above in orange.
