Hamit celebrates 35 years of state service

Rich Hamit, Engineering Technician Specialist in the Kansas Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Road Design, has achieved a career milestone and is celebrating 35 years of valued service to the State of Kansas.

Hamit started with KDOT in 1990 in the Wamego Area office as an Engineering Technician II. He transferred to the Bureau of Road Design at Headquarters in Topeka in 1991. Most of his service has been in Road Design, but Hamit has also worked in the bureaus of Traffic Engineering and Transportation Planning. He was promoted to his current position in 2023.

In his role, Hamit coordinates the planning and relocating of utility company facilities on KDOT highway improvement projects and confirms the plans are in compliance.

In 2020, Hamit was in the first class of KDOT employees who were trained and certified as Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) drone pilots from the Federal Aviation Administration.

He and his wife, Kristy, reside in Overbrook.
